Special Fund Set Up for Suffering Family

Family's Church to Accept and Forward Donations to Fire Victims

Hepzibah, WV -- In a devastating house fire on Tuesday, June 3, 2003, the Linda Ferrell family lost a dearly beloved handicapped son, as well as suffering the loss of their home and practically all its contents. The Fire Marshall’s findings point to a faulty electrical outlet on a bedroom wall as the cause of a fire that killed Ricky Ferrell, who was completely paralyzed by Cerebral Palsy.

Ferrell has cared for two of her adult children, both paralyzed by Cerebral Palsy, for their entire lives. Missy Ferrell (31 years old) and Ricky Ferrell (33 years old) are fondly regarded by all acquaintances. The sudden passing of Ricky Ferrell has deeply impacted all who knew him.

Linda and Missy Ferrell were at a church meeting for ladies when the fire struck. Janice Todd, a longtime friend of the family, was providing care for Ricky Ferrell. While Todd was doing laundry in a basement accessible from outside the house, the fire broke out near the front of the home and progressed unawares. When she tried to reenter the home, she discovered the fire, which was out of control. She ran for help, but the paralyzed man perished in the house. Many mourners took comfort from learning that smoke inhalation would have caused sleep and death by asphyxiation before the flames reached the body.

The family’s church, House of the Lord Jesus Christ, in East View, WV, is accepting donations on behalf of the family. The church’s pastor, Rev. Paul Glaspell, has expressed thanks and appreciation to all who desire to help with both finances and prayer as the family struggles to regain a home. Pastor Doug Joseph of Christian Apostolic Church in Clarksburg said, “This family will face many financial challenges in the months ahead, and we want to help as much as possible. I am encouraging folks to not just give once, but to give now and to also pledge, by faith, to give a set amount -- even if only a small amount -- every month for a while. Thus, some residual help will continue for them.”
